LIVING WITH YOUR FOOD

On January 13th, the 2nd of 5 Rabbit and Poultry Production Workshops under the Empowering Family Health Project was held.  8 residents came together in Bouchie Lake and learnt all about caring for Rabbits and Poultry from presenter, Lou Dobie.  The workshop was fun, informative, engaging and hands on.

The participants learnt all about caring for both poultry (layers and meat birds) and rabbit in our North Cariboo climate.  One of the best parts of the workshop was that Lou included both a Rooster and Hen and a Buck and a Doe rabbit in her teachings.
The workshop was held at the Bouchie Lake Country Store.

Update from Ten Mile Lake / Moose Heights

On January 8th, the Empowering Family Health Workshops were at the Parkland Community Centre in Ten Mile Lake.  Thank you to the Parkland Community Association for hosting us.  Both workshops, "Food Preservation: Dehydration" and "Foraging in the Backyard" were both extremely well attended and engaging.

8th.  On January 7th, a group met at the Barlow Creek Fire Hall for the workshop titled "Living Off Your Backyard" with presenter, Colleen Gatenby.  Colleen's presentation was an inspiration and covered off what one can do in one's "backyard" to ensure one's own food security.  Colleen's "backyard" includes the Quesnel Downtown Community Garden which explains the above quote.

Thank you to the Barlow Creek Volunteer Fire Department for opening up their hall as the venue for this workshop.  It worked perfectly.
